About Us

Republic of Laws is dedicated to helping Americans better understand our country’s government and laws. The creators of Republic of Laws believe this is important in maintaining a healthy democracy and that this knowledge should not be hidden behind paywalls.

As an educational platform, the aim of Republic of Laws is simple: provide easy to understand articles that give everyone insight into government and the law. While by no means a replacement for a formal education in either of these subjects, the knowledge gained from these readings should give everyday people the tools to discuss and debate the social system in which we live.

This site is designed to allow readers to find collections of articles on well-known topics, like Constitutional Law, while also exploring more nuanced issues such as the relationship between state & federal governments or the philosophy of law (which most JD students do not even study!). Republic of Laws views a thorough knowledge of government and law quite broadly. For instance, articles covering issues like the Legislative Process and how these intersect with the application of resulting statutes can help readers better understand both the American political process and American law from a new angle.

Republic of Laws is also dedicated to providing high-quality discussions of important policy areas. This is especially true of controversial issues such as environmental regulation and how these intersect with, and are supported by, traditional understandings of American law and government.

All of the articles on Republic of Laws are written by authors holding at least a JD, and in some instances by those with a PhD or an SJD (law-equivalent of a PhD), as well. Article content is reviewed for accuracy and quality of discussion by a dedicated editor.

We hope that you enjoy Republic of Laws and find its articles helpful and insightful as you learn more about the systems that governs our lives here in the United States.
